The Committee held a virtual meeting on 11th June 2020 in which it was decided that the current Club advice will remain unchanged at this time (see below).

Despite the fact that the Club is not functioning at the moment, the Committee has agreed to continue supporting the following local charities:-

WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE SAFE CONDITIONS FOR SETTING OUT AND OPERATING THE SHOOT AT THIS TIME. THIS IS CONSTANTLY UNDER REVIEW, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE ANY CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THIS POSITION WILL CHANGE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

The following are the major stumbling blocks:-

  1. Providing a safe environment for the volunteers to set out all the equipment for each shoot.
  2. Controlling the numbers of shooters at the ground to maintain the necessary social distancing.
  3. Providing a totally contactless booking-in procedure and controlling the flow of shooters at the ground.
  4. Safely clearing the site when shooting is complete.

Further details can be seen here: Chairman's Message.

Cannington Clays

Clay shooting at Cannington Park takes place on Thursday evenings through the Summer (see the Fixtures page for dates), starting as soon as all the stands are set up and we are ready, and finishing before dusk in order to give us time to clear away. Additional shoots may be added for Christmas etc. We can supply a club shotgun or two by prior arrangement (see Contact Us) and coaching may available from our BASC registered coach, Mike Hill - also by prior arrangement.

The shooting layout varies every week. On the afternoon of shooting, the course of 5 or 6 stands, giving rounds of 50 targets, is set up by those club members available, usually a group of dedicated volunteers who kindly give up their time to ensure set up is completed ready for the evening shoot, with a view to making it different to the previous week/s, so there are always new target presentations to consider – some easier and some not! No two shooting sessions will be the same.

If any members feel that they can perhaps add a different stand layout, they are welcome to come along in the afternoon at 14:00 and join in.

After the shoot members are encouraged to stay for a cuppa and then help clear up and collect unbroken clays, which are recovered for future use.

Please note that our permission demands that we only use fibre wads - clay shooters found to be using plastic wads will be asked to leave. Also note that the ground is rented out for sheep pasture, and the landlord's wishes are that dogs must be kept on leads if brought onto the shooting ground.

Ear and eye protection must be worn when shooting (see the Club Rules). Any person found not to be compliant will be asked to wear the correct equipment before continuing.

We are a very friendly club and non-members are always made welcome. Please note that non-Certificate holders (or new Certificate holders) will only be able to shoot with an experienced Club member to ensure the safety of all.
